The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently officially passed the review of the implementation plan of the methanol vehicle pilot project in Shanghai and Shanxi, marking the official landing of the methanol vehicle pilot project. And Shaanxi, Guiyang and other places have also started methanol gasoline pilot projects, which will not only drive the development of new energy vehicles, but also drive the recovery of methanol demand.
New energy vehicles usher in opportunities
Since this year, the problem of nationwide air pollution has attracted much attention, and the prime culprit of haze weather is automobile exhaust. Using methanol as automobile fuel can improve the octane number of combustion, reduce the harmful emissions of tail gas, and achieve the purpose of energy conservation and emission reduction. As early as July 2, 2009, the National Standardization Administration Committee officially approved and promulgated the "methanol gasoline for vehicles (M85)" standard. On November 1 of that year, China's first "vehicle fuel methanol" standard was also approved for implementation, transforming methanol from chemical products into vehicle fuel.
At present, methanol as an alternative fuel technology has become mature. Shanxi Province has been vigorously promoting methanol vehicles. According to statistics, more than 40 high proportion methanol fuel filling stations have been built in Shanxi Province. More than 1000 gas stations are selling M15 methanol gasoline (mixed with 15% methanol in gasoline). About 15000 methanol modified vehicles are in use, and 6000 vehicles are mixed with methanol. People from the Shanxi Provincial Economic and Information Commission said that methanol vehicles in Shanxi Province are expected to exceed 100000 by 2015, and the industrial scale will reach 8 billion to 10 billion yuan. At the end of 2009, the Shanghai Municipal Government issued a new energy vehicle industry incentive policy to support the industrialization of new energy vehicles, scientific and technological breakthroughs, government procurement, infrastructure subsidies, cost subsidies and other aspects. At the same time, pure methanol automobile is also one of the nine high-tech industrialization fields in Shanghai. In 2011, the pure methanol technology developed by Shanghai Coking Company made 30 M100 methanol-fueled vehicles operate safely in Minhang District taxi fleet for nearly one year.
In the pilot implementation plan of methanol vehicles, public transport is the first target. Therefore, the new energy bus companies that use methanol as vehicle fuel will usher in development opportunities. According to the latest data, 5656 new energy passenger cars were sold in 2012, up 3.72% year on year. From the perspective of specific models, large and medium-sized buses are still the main force for the commercialization of new energy vehicles, mainly because urban buses have low speed requirements and good demonstration effect. The main buyers are government and public institutions, and new energy buses develop first under the promotion of policies. Shanxi Provincial Economic and Information Commission agreed to provide 100 methanol city buses for pilot operation in Changzhi City by Yutong Bus last November.
There are 26 shares in the A-share new energy vehicle sector, of which Yutong Bus, Yaxing Bus and Foton Motor are recommended. Beijing Bus Group has ordered 800 hybrid buses from Foton Motor, becoming the first company to benefit from the rise of new energy vehicles in China. Recently, the four hybrid buses of Yaxing Bus have been determined to be finalised in the national "financial subsidy demonstration and promotion products", which means that the purchase of hybrid new energy buses of Yaxing Bus in any city can receive a financial subsidy of up to 420000 yuan. In the past three years, Yutong passenger car has doubled its gross profit rate, which is significantly higher than that of traditional passenger cars, and has entered the profit contribution period.
It is expected to drive the price of methanol and gasoline
There is no "three wastes" pollution in the production of methanol gasoline, and less harmful gases such as hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide are emitted. It is a new type of automobile fuel with high calorific value, sufficient power and low pollution. As the international crude oil price continues to rise recently, methanol gasoline with lower price is gradually recognized by the market. The State Administration of Taxation has announced that all liquid petroleum products will be taxed from January 1 this year, which will certainly push up the price of refined oil and fuel the development of methanol gasoline and methanol vehicles.
The data shows that the domestic methanol market has started to recover after three months of continuous decline since this year. The methanol market has continued to recover since January. The methanol price in East China has risen by nearly 10% year to date. This is due to the low inventory of methanol enterprises as a whole, coupled with the cold weather, resulting in limited production facilities. According to preliminary estimates, it is expected that by the end of 2020, the increase in methanol demand is expected to expand to 100 million tons. Due to the remarkable substitution effect, at present, in addition to the pilot project of M85 high proportion methanol gasoline in Shanghai, Shanxi and Shaanxi designated by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Guiyang has also launched the pilot project of M85 methanol gasoline. The use of M25, M30 and M40 has been partially promoted in some provinces and cities in Northeast China and East China. With the promotion and application of medium-high proportion of methanol gasoline, the driving effect of methanol fuel for vehicles on methanol consumption will become increasingly obvious.
